Cascia - Among the oaks of Valle Tezze

The walk starts from the Tourist Office of Cascia in Piazza Garibaldi. Leave the church of St. Francis on your right and walk down the steps to cross Piazzale S. Francesco. From here turn left and walk down Via Cavour and after approx. 200m turn right (following the sign marked Istituti Scolastici) and go up to the school on the left-hand side. From here turn left at a group of oak trees and then left again along the tarmac road which leads into Valle Tezza. Continue along the main path for about 1 km and where the path bends, you’ll see a wooden fence on the right. Take the left-hand road along the flat. Continue straight along a path which runs alongside a hedged ditch.  Turn right at the junction and discover the village of Sciedi on your left. At the second junction turn right again. At the third junction take the left-hand path which rises to the summit of Mount Puro, at Collezzano, where you can look out over Cascia and the surrounding area. From Collezzano a short, downhill stretch leads to the tarmac road opposite the village of Casali di S. Antonio where our path turns right towards Cascia. Continue along the flat, tarmac road for almost 1km, turn right at the crossroads and then at the signpost for the “Carabinieri”, turn right again downhill to the school, from where you can retrace your steps first downhill and then uphill to your starting point. 

 

HOW TO GET THERE

Exit from the SS 209 Valnerina at Serravalle and take the SS 320 towards Cascia.  

The town lies approx. 12 km away.
